Acupuncture treatments: an alternative approach to pain relief

Acupuncture is a treatment that can relieve the symptoms of some physical and psychological conditions and may encourage the patients’ body to heal and repair if it is able to do so...

Acupuncture treatments stimulate the nerve in the skin, muscle and often tissues and can produce a variety of effects. We know that it increases the release of the body’s natural painkillers, including endorphins and serotonin in the pathways of both the spinal cord and the brain.

Some other conditions in which acupuncture might be used are:

  • Functional bowel and bladder problems, such as IBS or irritable bladder
  • Menstrual and menopausal symptoms
  • Allergies such as hay fever and rhinitis and some allergic rashes e.g. urticarial
  • Dry mouth and eyes
  • Stopping smoking
  • In some cases may help with weight loss
  • Relief from drug withdrawal symptoms
